...and while you're counting the days for the 12th of February, Season Of Mist streamed online, a whole week before the official release date, the new Rotting Christ record. Time and space are somehow taking a new meaning in your head. Seems like it stops everything you do, everything that is happening around you. Noises from outside, the dogs that barking, roadworks are silenced, the clouds pass by, sun rays burst in, the game of dice that gods and demons roll away our fortunes stops. Maybe it's a poltergeist technique that disappeared everything from around you, leaving you alone with only the speakers and your sound system.
''In Nomine Dei Nostri'' welcomes the shadows and with a heavy, dark pace moves behind you with its black cape. ''Rituals'' follows the ''Aealo'' atmosphere and progress the ideas of ''Κατά τον Δαίμονα Εαυτού''. Sakis has studied the rituals of the religios and added to the whole concept a darker, more atmospheric and concrete lyrical and musical basis. Its simple and plain Progress. Aramaic, French, latin, greek. Once more the use of traditional instruments is spread around the whole album. They use choirs and spoken words that complete the atmosphere, with one of the peaks being the screams in ''Ελθε Κυριε'' that make you shiver. Finding themselves in tune with Rituals, Rotting Christ make an ode to Nikos Xylouris '' Του Θάνατου (Tou Thanatou)" and to Demis Roussos covering "The Four Horsemen" of Aphrodite's Child.
If you're looking for cons, then maybe the lack of riffing and lack of speed moments, may trouble you. But that was not the intention of Rotting Christ. Speed and heavy riffing didn't quite fit in their larger picture.
Rotting Christ have redefined their sound (and logo), more than three times during their existence, without losing their identifying sound. Only a few bands globally have achieved that without being ditched by fans. These guys, that set off almost 29 years ago, playing in every (underground) corner of the world and having always newer and younger followers, stay true to their one belief: Music. No stardom,no nothing.
